The Whisky Ledger is an independent editorial portal devoted to the history, craft and cultural heritage of whisky-making around the world. We publish long-form editorial writing on distilleries, regions, production traditions and the wider culture of whisky. Every article is written for the reader who wishes to understand what lies behind the glass.
Independent and Non-Commercial
The Whisky Ledger has no commercial affiliations with any distillery, importer or retailer. We do not publish sponsored content, we do not link to online retailers and we do not accept product samples in exchange for coverage. Our editorial independence is the foundation on which everything else stands.
Our Editorial Team
The Whisky Ledger is written and edited by a small team of New Zealand-based whisky historians and writers with backgrounds in journalism, hospitality and the history of food and drink. Our contributors bring decades of combined experience of whisky writing and travel, and our editorial standards are those of any serious publication.
Content Methodology
Our articles are researched from primary and secondary sources — historical archives, industry records, published scholarship and, wherever possible, direct visits to the distilleries in question. Facts are checked, corrections are welcomed and every article carries a byline.
A New Zealand Perspective
The Whisky Ledger is published from Auckland, and while our editorial view is global we take particular interest in the emerging whisky culture of New Zealand and the wider Southern Hemisphere.
